Playing solid for 8 hours, then losing that headway in one hand

Default Playing solid for 8 hours, then losing that headway in one hand

My problem is that I'll play solid poker for a long time and will build up a nice profit at a table, then I'll flush my profit or my entire buy-in in one or two hands. I don't think I'm on tilt because I'm playing good hands, but I continue to lose.

I usually end up winning a lot of my chips with all-ins when I get good hands. However, that is also how I usually lose all my chips as well. Is it better to go all-in with prime hands (nut flush or better) frequently and reap great profit with great loss, or is it better to ride it out and win and lose smaller pots?

I kind of feel the same way, but my case is a little different. I play solid at the low cost tables and keep winning every game I enter. Then I feel like I should take a shot at some more expensive games. And I couldn't win a hand, my luck completely changed and I end up losing for the day after being so hot to begin with.

Is your play predictable? Do other players read you?

that's why I like limit games. You can play solidly all day and not have it be for naught on one bad beat. I am not a fan of the all in preflop move. I like to be able to see more than just two cards before I risk my entire bankroll.

Just because you have the money to play at a higher limit doesn't mean you should. You will find tougher competition as you move up and consequently winning or holding on to those winning will be much harder.

As far as when to bet and how much, I would recommend getting a good NL poker book. NL is a lot more complecated than pushing all your chips in with the best hand. So much more complicated.

So complicated that I don't like to play it. I'm pretty intelligent (I like to think) and can barely grasp all the intricacies of NL play. Maybe it's my intelligence that keeps me from sitting at these tables very often in the first place. :-P

If NL is your game of choice, you owe it to yourself to research and learn as much about it off the table as possible. It's just way to expensive to learn by paying tuition to the better players. You still need the practice, but just jumping into NL without knowing as much as you possibly can about it, is a very expensive hobby to undertake.
